From Chuck Jamison:

I am 60 years old.  I have been a member of Clan Gunn and the Sacramento Caledonian Society since 1990.  I was the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the 91st Division Pipe Band from 1994 to 2000 and then transferred to the 59th Army Band, California National Guard in Sacramento.  I was a platoon sergeant for the band as well as their bagpiper until July of 2005.  I was a member of the City of Sacramento Pipe Band from 1992 to 2003.  I’m now a member of the Sacramento Saint Andrews Society.

I have also been active in the Western United States Pipe Band Association.  I served on the Executive Council as the Northern Branch President and have organized four workshops in the Sacramento Area for pipers and drummers.

I have been teaching bagpipes for ten years and currently have 25 students at various skill levels and of various ages from 13 to 70 years old.

I’m married and have two boys who are married and so far have two grandchildren.  I retired at the end of 2001 from SMUD as a computer program analyst and now participate regularly with the California National Guard Veterans Honors Program rendering military honors at veterans’ funerals.

I’m also playing Irish drum and other percussion with a Celtic music group, Griffin.

Two tours to Vietnam as a Search and Rescue Pilot in the 60s.  Search and Rescue Officer for NAS Agana, Guam early 70s. Oregon National Guard in the late 70s. Served as the Battalion Photographer while learning the ins and outs of being a combat engineer.  California National Guard in the 80s. AVLB Bridge Tanks and later Battalion Military Intelligence section sergeant.  Joined the 91st Division Band in the 90s and learned to play the pipes.

I have lived in California most of my life.  I graduated from Roseville High School and from Sierra College before I went into the Navy.

Post 1921 Changes
This weekend, at the Modesto Games, Jo Lawrence announced that National Commander Tim Lally had requested that Fran McVey step up to the post of Regional Commander, in a reorganization that gave him the area of California, Nevada and Hawaii.  This meant that Chuck Jamison would step up to Post Commander and Bob Rydbeck would change positions from Northern California Regional Commander to Post XO.  The oath of office was administered by Jo to all appropriate officers.

Please send me a submission for this space.  It can be a bio or about something interesting that you are doing, or both.  If you have a photo that I have taken and want it inserted here, please let me know the event and the basic description.  If it is in an ImageStation album, if you can give me the photo number that would be great.  If you have a photo you would like to submit, please send me an electronic version or mail it to me
